Four Decades –And Still Going Strong!
The Riverside Community Ladies’
Club for Youth, was formerly known as the R.M.H.A. Ladies’ Auxiliary.
In its early days, the club focused on bake sales to raise funds to help
purchase hockey equipment for its players and to feed those who
participated in the Riverside Christmas Tournament. As the community
grew, so did the tournament with teams from all over Canada, the United
States, and Europe requesting entry. In the early days, the club members
would cook meals in their own homes and then bring the food to the
arena; later, however, a kitchen was added to the arena and the cooking
was done there. Today, over forty years later, the ladies are still
cooking those nutritious meals from 7a.m to 6 p.m from December 26-the
30th to feed the players at the R.M.H.A. Bantam - Midget International
Tournament.
The Ladies also offer bursaries that help pay registration fees for
those who otherwise would not be able to play hockey. In addition, the
Ladies have branched out to help other worthwhile organizations in the
community. We buy sports equipment for all sports including hockey,
lacrosse, volleyball, soccer and basketball. The
Club has donated to the Children’s Aid Society, the Children’s
Achievement Centre, the Public Library’s Children’s Section, Hiatus
House, just to mention a few.
The members of the
Riverside Community Ladies’ Club for Youth are proud to serve the
community, their ultimate goal is to provide the youth with positive and
worthwhile activities for today’s young people are tomorrow’s leaders.
Please join us as
we continue to serve the community and especially its Youth. Contact one
of our Executive Members to make this happen!
